Here Are Some of the Women You Will Meet in Scotland
One of the things people wonder most before joining a Gone International trip is who else will be there.
There is no single type of woman who comes on a Gone International trip.
Some are moving abroad. Some have been abroad for years. Some are coming with a friend, while others are arriving alone. Some are extroverts, some are quieter at first and some are simply ready for a few days of fresh air, good conversation and a bit of adventure.
That is who is coming to Scotland on this trip here.
So, here are just some of the women joining us in the Highlands this September.
Aimy
Aimy is originally from Australia and now lives in Finland, where she works as a teacher.
She moved abroad and is looking forward to a few peaceful days in Scotland surrounded by nature. Scotland has been on her list for a while, and the Highlands felt like the right place for a proper break.
This will be Aimy's second trip with Gone International to Scotland! (This is a photo from our trip).
Shristi
Shristi is flying in from Stockholm, where she now calls home. She is excited to spend a few days with other international women and kayak on the lochs and hike in the hills and have a proper break from her busy life.
Shristi has created hundreds of events for Girl Gone International over the years and has joined our GGI team as a mentor to help other women create community for immigrant women in other cities in Europe.
Kim
Kim is originally from Buffalo, New York and now lives in Helsinki.
She moved abroad for the first time in 2025 and says GGI has helped her feel more grounded as she built a new life and made new friends in Finland. She loves painting, embroidery, baking and anything creative.
Kim is coming for Scotland’s dramatic landscapes, rainy weather, photography opportunities and the chance to explore with her camera. She is also a fan of ruins, abandoned buildings, autumn weather and what she calls “creepy forest” energy.
This is Kim's second trip to Scotland with Gone International. She is third fromt he left in our photo from the trip.
Lorena
Lorena is from Croatia and now lives in Amsterdam. She is a freelance fashion stylist and illustrator.
She moved abroad in her thirties and joined GGI to meet interesting new people. At home, she lives with her husband and two dogs, Mara and Toffee. She likes painting on wood and collecting rocks.
She has wanted to visit Scotland for years and is excited for the culture, workshops, cows, exploring and getting properly immersed in the Highlands.
Cristina
Cristina is from Italy and now lives in Belgium, where she works as a pharmaceutical scientist.
Living abroad was her dream from her teenage years, and she loves reading, painting and playing tennis. She is coming to Scotland for the landscapes, the lake-side house, kayaking and the chance to read with a view.
Cristina describes herself as being on a journey of self-discovery, with a love of cosy places and creative hobbies.
Casey
Casey is joining us from Illinois in the USA. She works as a shipping clerk and is a mum of two.
She loves nature, reading and exploring, and is coming to Scotland with her best friend Heidi. She is looking forward to experiencing Scottish culture, relaxing and doing something new together.
Ciara
Ciara is originally from Ireland and now lives in Berlin, where she works as a tech project manager for a scale-up company.
She has lived in three different European countries, including two moves entirely on her own. She speaks English, Swedish, German and a little Irish Gaelic.
Despite being Irish and having read the Outlander books, she has somehow never been to Scotland before. She is looking forward to seeing the country for herself and spending time with a lovely group of women.
Amelie
Amelie is from Münster in Germany and now lives in Vilnius, Lithuania. She runs her own SEO consultancy.
She moved abroad in 2019, first to Denmark and then to Lithuania, and loves being part of international communities. She is into crafting evenings, reading, writing, creative non-fiction and, in her own words, is a bit of a nerdy gal.
She is most excited about the nature, the chance to sit around a fire together and getting to a more secluded part of Scotland than she might have reached alone. She also has a witchy altar at home and a favourite museum devoted to taxidermied frogs.
Heidi
Heidi is joining us from Illinois, where she manages a call centre in a large hospital. She is travelling with her best friend Casey.
She loves reading, singing, music, writing, journaling and building tiny miniature houses. She also loves rain, deep conversations and learning about the people around her.
Heidi has started travelling more in recent years and meeting people from all over the world. She is looking forward to the Highlands, the nature, taking photos, making memories and being around women who want to see each other do well.
