I felt genuinely safe and looked after the entire time, in a way I didn’t even realise I needed. Being surrounded by women who cared about each other made all the difference.

I recently went on an unforgettable trip to Bali with the Girl Gone International community and what an experience it was! From connecting with some truly amazing GGIians from around the world, this trip was all about meaningful connections, laughter, and stepping outside our comfort zones.A huge shoutout to the incredible GGI volunteers for organizing such a well-thought-out and beautifully executed escape. I truly encourage women in this group to join these trips - they’re well-organized, safe, and incredibly accommodating.

Frequently asked questions

Here are some common questions about our Girl Gone International trip to Bali!

For more FAQs about travelling with us you can go to our FAQ page.

You will love this if you’re looking for a mix of wellness, connection, and a beautiful setting without things feeling forced or intense or intimidating.

This retreat is for you if:

  • You like the idea of staying in a private boutique retreat space near the ocean
  • You want a mix of movement (yoga, pilates, strength), rest (spa, pool, sauna), and exploration (beaches, culture, day trips)
  • You enjoy being around people, but also want space to do your own thing
  • You want everything organised - meals, activities, transport - so you can just show up and enjoy it
  • You’re open to meeting women from around the world (most people come solo)

It’s especially great if you want to feel good physically and mentally with things like ice baths, breathwork, workshops, and time to reset.

It might not be for you if:

  • You’re looking for a luxury resort holiday where you stay completely separate from others
  • You don’t enjoy any kind of group environment
  • You want a packed, fast-paced itinerary with no downtime

Most people come not knowing anyone and leave with new friends, a clearer head, and a week that feels genuinely different from a normal holiday.

If you’re craving a reset, a bit of energy, and good people around you this is the kind of week that delivers that.

There will be around 15 of us (number to be confirmed). Everyone is different ages and we love this! Everyone is from different countries and most live in a different country. Most describe themselves as international / immigrant / expat / global citizen.. we just say at GGI, 'we have gone international'. Many speak English as a second - or third or fourth - language! Because of this, everyone is very kind, open-minded, empathetic, curious, and we always have a lot to talk about!

Yes as long as you like the idea of being around people, not constantly “on”.

This retreat is designed to feel easy and low-pressure. You’ll be part of a small group, but nothing is forced, you can join activities, skip things, take time for yourself, or just sit by the pool with a book.

There’s a natural rhythm to the week:

  • Shared moments (meals, classes, a few group experiences)
  • Plenty of space for solo time (resting, exploring, recharging)

You won’t be expected to perform, share deeply, or be “social” all the time.

In fact, a lot of people who come are introverts or just a bit tired, and they tend to find this kind of setting easier than normal social situations because:

  • Everyone arrives solo
  • Conversations happen naturally
  • You can dip in and out without pressure

If you enjoy meaningful connection in a calm, relaxed environment and having your own space when you need it, you’ll  feel very comfortable here.

Uluwatu is located on the southwestern tip of Bali's Bukit Peninsula in Indonesia, renowned for its dramatic limestone cliffs, surf breaks, and the Pura Luhur Uluwatu temple. It is roughly 40–60 minutes from Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) or popular areas like Kuta and Canggu.

Each room has a private enclosed en suite bathroom as well as bathrooms in shared areas.

A trip is confirmed when we receive enough bookings (help spread the word about this trip!). As soon as we receive enough bookings we will send an email to tell you the trip is 100% confirmed and then you can book your flights! We try to do this as fast as possible so that you can get good rates on flight tickets.

Visa requirements depend on your passport. We recommend checking official government guidance for your nationality.

It’s a mix of both but leans more towards a wellness retreat with optional adventure.

The core of the week is about feeling good: movement, rest, good food, and time to reset. Think yoga, pilates, ice baths, spa time, workshops, and slow mornings.

Around that, we add in experiences like beach trips, Uluwatu cliffs and culture, exploring, and optional activities like surfing or day trips.

Nothing is rushed or overly scheduled. You’re not being moved around constantly like on a tour, you stay in one beautiful place and dip into experiences from there.

You can make it:

  • More retreat (rest, pool, spa, solo time)
  • More adventure (exploring, activities, day trips)

Most people end up doing a bit of both.

Yes, there’s free time built into the schedule, so you can head out to explore, shop, or just wander.

Uluwatu has

  • Small boutiques
  • Local markets
  • Beachwear and surf shops
  • Cafés and lifestyle stores

You’ll also have opportunities during free time or excursions to pick things up.

No, this trip is designed for all levels.

Everything is optional and adaptable. The movement sessions (yoga, pilates, strength) are guided by qualified instructors and can be adjusted to suit beginners through to more experienced levels.

You can take it at your own pace:

  • Join everything
  • Do a few sessions
  • Or skip and relax by the pool, book a massage, or head out exploring

There’s no pressure to perform, keep up, or push yourself.

The focus is on feeling good, not fitness.

Yes. Most people do. You will not feel like the odd one out. This is literally what our trip is built for.

Usually 20s–60s. We don’t market by age. We market by mindset. Open. Curious. Kind.

Maximum 18.

This is small group, community-based travel.

That’s normal.

We:

• Match carefully

• Open our WhatsApp group before the trip so you get to know everyone including your roommate.

Many shared rooms turn into future travel friendships.

Yes, both the retreat and Bali are considered very safe, especially in the area we’re staying.

The retreat itself is a private, well-established space with staff on-site, secure accommodation, and everything in one place so you’re not moving around late at night or navigating unfamiliar areas alone.

Uluwatu is a relaxed, laid-back part of Bali known for its beaches, surf culture, and wellness spaces. It’s quieter than places like Seminyak or Kuta, and generally feels very calm and easy to navigate.

As with any destination, we take normal precautions:

  • We organise transport where needed
  • We give clear guidance before and during the trip
  • You’ll be part of a group, not travelling alone

Most of our travellers come solo and Bali is one of the most popular destinations in the world for solo female travellers for a reason.

Yes, absolutely.

Uluwatu is known for its beaches and surf, and we’ve built in free time and optional activities so you can enjoy it.

You can:

  • Swim at nearby beaches (some are calm, some are more for surf, we’ll guide you)
  • Visit beautiful cliffside beaches and beach clubs
  • Try surfing with local instructors (beginner-friendly options available)
  • Or just relax by the ocean and take it all in

We’ll point you to the best spots depending on what you feel like, whether that’s an easy swim, a beach day, or trying something new.

There will be plenty.

This is a retreat-style environment.

You’re not scheduled minute-to-minute.

Short answer: hot, tropical, and mostly great with the occasional short rain shower.

October sits right at the end of the dry season, so it’s actually one of the best times to go:

  • 🌡️ Temperature: around 27–31°C (warm all day, evenings still balmy)
  • ☀️ Sun: plenty of sunshine, especially mornings and early afternoons
  • 🌧️ Rain: you might get short tropical showers, usually quick and often later in the day
  • 🌊 Sea: warm and perfect for swimming

You’ll fly into and out of Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS),  Bali’s main international airport.

It’s the only airport on the island, so it’s very straightforward.

From there:

  • The retreat in Uluwatu is around 45–60 minutes by car (depending on traffic)
  • We will tell you how to get to the retreat closer to the time, it is very easy.

Please arrive by 5pm but if it is not possible, don't worry!

Great! We are happy to advise. We recommend booking your own additional accommodation via booking.com or similiar platform to get the best deal. You can ask in our Whatsapp group if anyone else is arriving earlier too and may want to share.

We will give clear instructions to make this easy and stress-free for you. We advise giving yourself plenty of time to make this experience as enjoyable as possible for you.

3 meals per day.

Yes - most women join our trips solo. Rooms are twin-share and thoughtfully matched, and there’s plenty of support before and during the trip.

Single rooms may be available on request, subject to availability and an additional cost. Just ask.

This trip is open to all women and non-binary people. You do not need to be part of a GGI local group. Many participants join solo, and everyone is welcomed with warmth and inclusion.

Most travellers are between 30 and 55, but we welcome adults of all ages. If you are older or younger at heart and open to connection, you’ll fit right in. We really don't care about age - being an international woman has nothing to do with age and everything to do about moving around the world in a meaningful way!

If you have been an active Girl Gone International volunteer for over 6 months hosting and upholding your promise to the community to host free events / create conversation in the community then you are entitled to a wee discount! Just ask Anne!

Yes. Up to 5 interest-free payment plans are available due at the start of each month. Just contact us after booking to arrange a schedule that works for you. The sooner you book, the more instalments are available.

You can get a refund (minus transaction fees) up to 14 days from when you book, unless otherwise agreed. Speak to us so you can book with confidence.

We will work with you to either refund you if we have a waitlist and can pass your spot to another guest on the waitlist or move your payments to another trip. We will always try to help you out as far as we can based on your unique circumstances, how far out the trip is and the trip's service providers' terms and conditions that we are bound to. Speak to us, and we will see what we can do.

Yes. Travel insurance is required. You’ll be asked to confirm your coverage before the trip and sign a waiver upon arrival.

That’s absolutely okay. This trip is gently paced with rest built in. Please let us know anything we should be aware of so we can support you properly.

Many women in our community are neurodivergent. The trip is structured but flexible, with downtime, clear expectations, and the option to step back whenever needed.

Yes. Please let us know your needs in advance and we’ll do our best to accommodate them.

Yes. GGI is an international community and many of us speak English as a second or third language. You will be understood and supported.

This is a community experience so quite a bit of together time with structured group team, free flowing group time and space to be solo too.

Light, comfortable summer clothes.

Think activewear for classes, swimwear for the pool and beach, and loose, breathable outfits for the rest of the day.

Flip flops or sandals most of the time, trainers if you want them.

Nothing fancy needed.

The local currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR).

You’ll use it for most things like shopping, cafés, taxis, and tips.

  • Cards are widely accepted in many places
  • But it’s good to have some cash for smaller spots

Yes. Many women choose to explore solo during free time. We’ll share guidance on areas, timings, and transport so you can make informed choices.

That’s respected. You’re always free to step back, skip activities, or spend time alone. This is a supportive group, not a forced social experience.
