" Join our dreamy, grown-up slow summer camp in Scotland with a small, warm, welcoming community of international women of all ages. Come solo, most do. You will leave with new friends across the world!"

Woman posing at a door
Anne Scott
Founder of Girl Gone International

This is an all-included slow summer camp (no tents!) set in a traditional loch-side hunting lodge built in 1854 surrounded by The Arrochar Alps. Think lochs, forests, and mountains - wild swims and warm saunas, fire-pit nights, quiet mornings curled up with a book, gentle movement, space for side quests and lots of rest and laughs.

It wouldn't be a summer camp without some easy adventures on land and water, raft canoeing on the loch, and high-speed boating across Loch Lomond, alongside creative play, Scottish crafts and rituals, and a traditional Burns supper with music and stories.

With a brilliant Scottish team creating this unique experience and all activities, ground transport and meals included and prepared by a nutritionist, there’s nothing to plan and nothing to manage - just arrive and be free!

Frequently asked questions

Here are some common questions about our Girl Gone International trip to Scotland!

For more FAQs about travelling with us you can go to our FAQ page.

There will be around 18 of us (number to be confirmed). Everyone is different ages and we love this! Everyone is from different countries and most live in a different country. Most describe themselves as international / immigrant / expat / global citizen.. we just say at GGI, 'we have gone international'. Many speak English as a second - or third or fourth - language! Because of this, everyone is very kind, open-minded, empathetic, curious, and we always have a lot to talk about!

This trip is for you if… you love nature, meaningful conversation, cosy community living (try it, it is life-changing to be in a group of women for a period of time!). You will like it if you’re open to sharing space, meeting new women from around the world and embracing Scotland exactly as it is -fresh air, changing weather and all. You value experience and connection over polished luxury.

It may not be for you if… you need guaranteed sunshine, hotel-style privacy everywhere, rigid schedules or high-end spa luxury. This is a characterful lodge in the Highlands, not a five-star resort. It’s about warmth, atmosphere and community.

Short answer? Yes, if you’re an introvert, this can actually suit you very well.

This isn’t a loud, high-energy, forced-fun group trip. It’s a lodge in the Highlands with plenty of space to step back.

There are:

• Quiet nooks and sofas

• Lochside walks you can take alone

• Optional activities

• No pressure to perform socially

• No compulsory “bonding games”

You can join when you want to join, and take space when you need space.

The kind of women who come on GGI trips are usually thoughtful, open and emotionally intelligent. Conversation tends to be meaningful rather than chaotic. And because many people come solo, no one arrives in cliques.

You might not like it if you truly dislike any shared space at all or if you find being around people for several days draining without any recovery time. But if you simply need quiet moments to recharge, this setting actually supports that beautifully.

Introvert-friendly doesn’t mean alone. It means connection on your terms.

The lodge is 1 hour drive from Glasgow in the West of Scotland. It is situated on Loch Long surrounded by the Arrochar Alps.

There are 11 communal bathrooms in the Lodge on different levels with various facilities (toilet, bath or shower), which equates to one for every two people. The bathrooms are cleaned daily and maintain a communal bathroom etiquette for maximum comfort. This will be explained in our trip handbook, which you will receive closer to the trip. If you need a room close to a bathroom or disabled access, please communicate this with us.

Yes, we have 2 ground floor single rooms with disability access. Ask us any questions. One of our hosts uses a wheelchair so you can chat with her if you are interested in this trip.

A trip is confirmed when we receive enough bookings (help spread the word about this trip!). As soon as we receive enough bookings we will send an email to tell you the trip is 100% confirmed and then you can book your flights! We try to do this as fast as possible so that you can get good rates on flight tickets.

Visa requirements depend on your passport. We recommend checking official government guidance for your nationality. An Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) is required by most to enter. It is simple, immediate and costs approx £16 and is valid for 2 years.

It’s both.

Think: adult summer camp meets Highland lodge retreat.

You choose your pace.

Yes, Glasgow is amazing for shopping and so is the village of Luss which is very quaint and full of craft shops, book shops, art galleries.

No. Everything is optional. There will be:

• Gentle walks

• Moderate hikes

• Time to sit by the loch with tea

If you don’t want to climb hills, you don’t have to. If you want to push yourself, you can

Yes. Most people do. You will not feel like the odd one out. This is literally what our trip is built for.

Usually 20s–60s. One of our hosts is in their 70s! We don’t market by age. We market by mindset. Open. Curious. Kind.

Maximum 20.

This is small group, community-based travel.

That’s normal.

We:

• Match carefully

• Open our WhatsApp group before the trip so you get to know everyone including your roommate.

Many shared rooms turn into future travel friendships.

Yes.

• Hosted and led start to finish

• Trusted certified local facilitators

• Small group

• Private lodge

• Clear itinerary

• UK-based company

You are not navigating alone.

Yes and it’s optional.

Cold water swimming is invigorating but never forced. You must do it supervised and not swim alone.

There will be plenty.

This is a retreat-style environment.

You’re not scheduled minute-to-minute.

Unpredictable. Beautiful. Possibly cold and rainy. Possibly sunny and warm.

Expect:

• Fresh air

• Layers

• Dramatic skies

• Crisp mornings

• Maybe sunshine

• Maybe mist

It’s Scotland. That’s part of the magic.

Fly into Glasgow International, Glasgow Prestwick or Edinburgh. Our meeting point is Glasgow city centre. Some people may decide to spend a few days travelling in Scotland then meet us in Glasgow for the pick up to the lodge. Talk to us and we will help you plan.

Please be in Glasgow by 11am for our private pick up to the lodge.

Great! We are happy to advise. We recommend booking your own additional accommodation via booking.com or similiar platform to get the best deal. You can ask in our Whatsapp group if anyone else is arriving earlier too and may want to share.

We can help advise you on other adventures in Scotland. Just ask us!

Amazing! It is a beautiful city. You can fly to and from Edinburgh. It is an under an hour train ride to Glasgow (our meeting point).

We will give clear instructions to make this easy and stress-free for you. We advise giving yourself plenty of time to make this experience as enjoyable as possible for you.

3 meals per day at the lodge (breakfast, lunch and dinner) plus yummy snacks. All is prepared for you, so you don't have to lift a finger. We all eat meals together at shared tables, but you can of course find a nook to eat if you need some solo time.

Yes - most women join our trips solo. Rooms are twin-share and thoughtfully matched, and there’s plenty of support before and during the trip.

Single rooms may be available on request, subject to availability and an additional cost. Just ask.

This trip is open to all women and non-binary people. You do not need to be part of a GGI local group. Many participants join solo, and everyone is welcomed with warmth and inclusion.

Most travellers are between 30 and 55, but we welcome adults of all ages. If you are older or younger at heart and open to connection, you’ll fit right in. We really don't care about age - being an international woman has nothing to do with age and everything to do about moving around the world in a meaningful way!

If you have been an active Girl Gone International volunteer for over 6 months hosting and upholding your promise to the community to host free events / create conversation in the community then you are entitled to a wee discount! Just ask Anne!

Yes. Up to 5 interest-free payment plans are available due at the start of each month. Just contact us after booking to arrange a schedule that works for you. The sooner you book, the more instalments are available.

You can get a refund (minus transaction fees) up to 14 days from when you book, unless otherwise agreed. Speak to us so you can book with confidence.

Yes. Travel insurance is required. You’ll be asked to confirm your coverage before the trip and sign a waiver upon arrival.

That’s absolutely okay. This trip is gently paced with rest built in. Please let us know anything we should be aware of so we can support you properly.

Many women in our community are neurodivergent. The trip is structured but flexible, with downtime, clear expectations, and the option to step back whenever needed.

Yes. Please let us know your needs in advance and we’ll do our best to accommodate them.

Yes. GGI is an international community and many of us speak English as a second or third language. You will be understood and supported.

There is walking most days, but at a relaxed pace with breaks. Comfortable shoes are recommended. You can always opt out and rest.

A 60-minute drive there and back in a small private mini bus. Quick village drives.

This is a community experience so quite a bit of together time with structured group team, free flowing group time and space to be solo too.

Lots of layers, comfy walking boots or shoes. We will send you a packing list suitable for carry ons.

The local currency is the British Pound Sterling. Cards and Apple Pay are widely accepted. Cash is useful for small purchases.

Yes. Many women choose to explore solo during free time. We’ll share guidance on areas, timings, and transport so you can make informed choices.

That’s respected. You’re always free to step back, skip activities, or spend time alone. This is a supportive group, not a forced social experience.
