FAQ Who is the trip for?

Community and Belonging Questions

What age are the women who join GGI trips?

Our trips are proudly intergenerational - that’s one of the things that makes the GGI experience so special. Think you’ll be the oldest? You probably won’t be. Worried it’ll just be a group of 20-somethings? Very unlikely. What connects us isn’t age - it’s a shared way of life and a deep understanding of what it means to move far, start again, and build community. Groups are big enough to find your people and small enough to feel like a cosy group of friends.

Will I fit in if I’m coming alone?

Absolutely. Most people come solo, and still feel completely at ease and connected. While some join with a friend, sister, or mum, around 90% of participants come alone and leave with real friendships.

Do I have to be a long-time GGI member to join a trip?

Nope. If you identify as a Girl Gone International - someone who’s packed a bag and headed out into the world (or dreams of it!) - then you’re one of us. You’ll feel at home here.

Is it okay if English is not my first language?

Yes. In fact, most of us don’t speak English as a first language. We come from all over the world with different levels of fluency and we’re kind and patient with each other. Language is never a barrier to friendship here.

What kind of people usually come on these trips?

The loveliest people join our trips. Open-minded, curious, welcoming just like the women who make up our global GGI community. We’re diverse in age, nationality, background, culture, neurodiversity, and personality, but we’re all connected by one thing: knowing what it’s like to move internationally and want to belong.

What if I’m not super social, outdoorsy, or fit?

That’s totally okay. We encourage everyone to make the trip their own. Before the trip, you can share any preferences, limits, or accessibility needs and we’ll help tailor the experience for you. Whether you’re more introverted, need to take things slow, or prefer certain kinds of activities – we’ll support you. GGI is about making the world feel more accessible and safe for each other.

What if I can’t afford these trips?

We know that not everyone is in the same financial situation and that can feel hard when you really want to come. At GGI, we do everything we can to keep costs low for the kind of experience we offer, and any extra goes directly to keeping our global community alive and free for others.

That said, here are some options and thoughts:

  • Flexible payment plans: We can create personalised instalment plans to spread the cost out over time, just talk to us.
  • Join our events: GGI runs thousands of free events worldwide every year. If now isn’t your time to travel, there are so many other ways to connect and feel the GGI magic in your city or online.
  • More accessible trips are coming: As we grow, we’re working hard to create lower-cost, shorter, and more local GGI experiences in the future. You're not missing out, you're just early.
  • You’re still part of this community. Whether or not you can join a trip right now, you belong here.

And if you ever want to talk it through, just reach out. There’s no shame, only support.
