Frequently asked questions

Here are some common questions about our Girl Gone International trip to Jordan!

For more FAQs about travelling with us you can go to our FAQ page.

A trip is confirmed when we receive enough bookings (help spread the word about this trip!). As soon as we receive enough bookings we will send an email to tell you the trip is 100% confirmed and then you can book your flights!

Yes. Jordan is one of the safest and most welcoming countries in the region. We travel with trusted local partners, private transport, and experienced guides throughout.

That’s exactly why this trip exists. We take care of logistics, safety, pacing, and support, so you can focus on enjoying an extraordinary place with confidence.

Jordan is one of the more welcoming countries in the region, and same-sex relationships are not illegal.

That said, Jordan is a socially conservative country, and public displays of affection (for anyone, regardless of sexuality) are uncommon. This is true for local couples as well as visitors.

On this trip:

  • We travel as a small, private group of women

  • We use trusted local partners, guides, and private transport

  • Hotels and experiences are international-traveller friendly

  • Your privacy and safety are always prioritised

Many LGBTQI+ travellers have visited Jordan comfortably, especially when travelling in a group like this, where logistics, accommodation, and cultural navigation are handled thoughtfully.

If you have specific questions or concerns, you’re always welcome to reach out to us privately we’re happy to talk things through honestly so you can decide what feels right for you.

For most nationalities, yes, a visa is required, but you don’t need to arrange this yourself.

As part of this group trip, we organise the visa process for you in advance. Before departure, you’ll be asked to provide:

  • Your full name (exactly as on your passport)

  • Passport number

  • Nationality

  • Date of birth

Your visa is then issued on arrival into Jordan, with our local team assisting you at the airport.

Important:

  • Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date.

  • If your nationality has different requirements, we’ll let you know well in advance.

In short: yes, a visa is needed - and yes, we take care of it for you.

You’ll fly into and out of Queen Alia International Airport (AMM). This is Jordan’s main international airport and where the trip begins and ends.

Arrival (Day 1)

Please aim to arrive at Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) by late afternoon or early evening, ideally before 6:00–7:00pm but don't worry we can be as flexible as you need. Some of us are arriving and departing on different days too. We can help you arrange extra hotel nights if neccessary and airport assistance on different days.

If you arrive earlier in the day, luggage storage is available at the hotel and we’ll help you settle in.

Departure (Final Day)

The trip officially ends after breakfast on the final day, with a group transfer to the airport.

We recommend booking flights departing from mid-morning onwards (from around 10:30am) to allow a relaxed transfer. But again, we will be flexible and help you based on the best flight times for you.

Exact timing guidance will be shared closer to departure, so you can book flights with confidence.

You’ll be met at the airport by our local team for meet & assist, help with arrival procedures, and a private transfer to the hotel. No taxis, no navigating alone — just land and we’ll take care of the rest.

You don’t need to organise anything yourself.

Airport transfers are included.

When you arrive at Queen Alia International Airport, our local team will meet & assist you at the airport, help with arrival procedures, and take you by private transfer directly to the hotel.

No taxis, no negotiating, no navigating alone - just land and we’ll take care of the rest.

The same applies on departure day, with a group transfer back to the airport included.

Breakfast is included daily, plus several lunches and dinners throughout the trip (including welcome dinner, Bedouin dinner in Wadi Rum, lunches with women’s projects, and lunch on the Red Sea cruise).

On free evenings, your guide will recommend restaurants and we often eat together or you’re free to do your own thing.

Absolutely. Most guests join solo. You’ll be thoughtfully room-matched via our tried and tested questionnaire, and the whole trip is designed to feel safe, supportive, and social without pressure.

Yes, solo rooms are available for a supplement of approx £450, subject to availability.

This trip is open to all women and non-binary people. You do not need to be part of a GGI local group. Many participants join solo, and everyone is welcomed with warmth and inclusion.

Most travellers are between 30 and 55, but we welcome adults of all ages. If you are older or younger at heart and open to connection, you’ll fit right in. We really don't care about age - being an international woman has nothing to do with age and everything to do about moving around the world in a meaningful way!

If you have been an active Girl Gone International volunteer for over 6 months hosting and upholding your promise to the community to host free events / create conversation in the community then you are entitled to a thank you trip gift! Just ask Anne!

Yes. Payment plans are available. Just contact us after booking to arrange a schedule that works for you.

Yes. Travel insurance is required. You’ll be asked to confirm your coverage before the trip and sign a waiver upon arrival.

You are very welcome. Many of our travellers are in their 50s or 60s. We accommodate a range of needs, and you can choose how much or how little you participate. If you have mobility concerns, chronic pain, or another condition, just let us know through the comfort form so we can support you properly.

Yes. We create a calm, inclusive space with structure, flexibility, and respect. You can opt in or out of activities. If you have specific needs or preferences, you're encouraged to share them in advance so we can accommodate you.

Vegetarian and vegan diets are easy to accommodate in Jordan, with many naturally plant-based dishes.

Coeliac / gluten-free diets are also manageable with advance notice.

Please let us know your dietary requirements before the trip so we can plan meals and flag this with hotels and local partners. You’ll be looked after throughout.

Yes. GGI is an international community and many of us speak English as a second or third language. You will be understood and supported.

This trip is moderate activity. The most walking is in Petra, with up to 8–10 km (5–6 miles, 12-14k steps) spread across the day on uneven paths, with plenty of stops.

Other days involve light walking, with private transport throughout and the option to sit out activities if needed. Comfortable walking shoes and a reasonable level of fitness are recommended.

Jordan is compact, but there are a few scenic drives between regions. Expect 1.5–3.5 hours on most travel days, broken up with stops, activities, and lunch.

Approximate drive times:

  • Amman → Petra: ~3 hours

  • Petra → Wadi Rum: ~1.5–2 hours

  • Wadi Rum → Aqaba: ~1 hour

  • Aqaba → Dead Sea / Jerash / Amman: longer day, broken up with stops

All travel is by private, air-conditioned bus, and no day is just “driving for the sake of it.” The longest drives connect major highlights and are paced comfortably.

Each day includes a mix of structured group experiences and free time. You are encouraged to listen to your energy and do what feels right for you. You can join everything or take quiet time when needed.

Jordan is relaxed and welcoming, but it’s also a culturally conservative country, so dressing thoughtfully helps you feel comfortable and confident.

General rule:

Light, breathable clothing that covers shoulders and knees when out in public.

Good to pack:

  • Loose trousers, maxi skirts, or lightweight jeans

  • T-shirts, blouses, or tops with sleeves (short sleeves are fine)

  • A light scarf or shawl (useful for sun, mosques, and cultural sites)

  • Comfortable walking shoes or trainers (especially for Petra)

  • Sandals for evenings and the Dead Sea

  • Swimwear for the Dead Sea, Red Sea, and hotel pools

  • A light jacket or layer for evenings and desert nights

At the Dead Sea & Red Sea:

Swimwear is absolutely fine at resort hotels and on the boat cruise.

In Petra & cities:

Comfortable, practical clothing is key — think sightseeing rather than fashion. You’ll see tourists dressed much like you.

In the desert (Wadi Rum):

Daytime can be warm, evenings can be cool — layers are important.

We’ll send a detailed packing list closer to departure so you don’t overthink it.

In short: comfortable, respectful, and practical - no need to cover your hair or dress extremely conservatively.

The local currency is the Jordanian Dinar (JOD).

Cards & Apple Pay

  • Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, and larger shops.

  • Apple Pay / contactless works in many places, especially in Amman, Aqaba, and hotels — but it’s not universal.

Cash

  • It’s a good idea to carry some cash in Jordanian Dinars for small purchases, tips, local markets, and women’s community projects.

  • ATMs are easy to find in cities, and you can withdraw JOD on arrival or during the trip.

What we recommend

  • Bring your usual bank card(s)

  • Have a small amount of cash (or withdraw locally)

  • Don’t rely on Apple Pay alone

Your guide will advise where cash is useful and help you find an ATM if needed.

In short: cards are common, cash is handy, Apple Pay is a bonus - a mix is best.

Early June is warm, dry, and sunny - ideal for sightseeing and desert experiences.

Typical temperatures:

  • Amman & Petra: around 25–30°C during the day, cooler in the evenings

  • Wadi Rum (desert): 30–35°C during the day, cooler after sunset

  • Dead Sea & Aqaba: 30–35°C, with warm water and lots of sunshine

It’s hotter near the sea and in the desert, but manageable with early starts, air-conditioned transport, shaded breaks, and relaxed pacing.

Evenings — especially in the desert — can be cooler, so a light layer is useful.

In short: sunny, summery, and warm — perfect for Petra, the desert, and the sea without peak-summer intensity.
